According to Wikipedia,  plaform shoes originated in Ancient Greece to give height to “important characters” in Greek theatre and were also worn by high dollar prostitutes during the 16th Century in Venice. Fast forward a few centuries and you’ll find platforms on thousands of heel styles from both high end and more affordable designers.

Platforms have come a long way through the decades taking many shapes, including this over the top pair from the 1970′s.

I prefer the more modern sillouette that echos the style worn centuries ago. The platform paired with a sexy stiletto to me, is the ultimate high heel. I wear heels everyday and if it wasn’t for platforms my feet would need serious medical attention. Not only do platforms add a special edge to shoes but they also add support. Judging by the platform’s rich history, this trend isn’t going anywhere.  Happy Heel Hunting!
