Heels.com Insider: Heels vs. Flats… The Debate Goes On

Posted by Lindsay on Tuesday Jul 14, 2009

Unlike Suleika, I think a lot about the heels vs. flats dilemma. Obviously, there are times when you should wear heels: in a professional setting, at a fancy event like prom or a party, and when going out on the town. Of course there are exceptions, but in general, these times all call for heels. However, on a day to day basis, I always think about this issue when I walk out the door.

Our office here is casual, so employees wear whatever they want. Some days it’s a fancy day, some days it’s a PJs day. But in general, we all try to dress stylishly. Well, as stylishly as you can knowing in the back of your head you might be shipping shoes, moving big boxes, or putting shoes on shevles. Cause we all do that stuff from time to time ;) Because of these duties, most of us usually opt for flats.

However, I do like the boost – both physically and mentally – I get from wearing heels. It makes me feel much more put together and it makes me feel like I look hot! Also, when I wear heels I can’t just throw on my linen pants with them, I actually have to make an outfit. And if I’m doing that, I might as well spend the extra 10 minutes on hair and makeup. So that girl, all done up, looks pretty different than the one who didn’t wear heels!

Now, I’m not saying that you can’t look cute and wear flats, I think it’s just more of a motivation factor for me. My solution is to always keep a spare pair of one or the other around. I do this a lot when I go out, because I never want to be that girl carrying her heels and walking barefoot (ick!) home. I simply bring a big purse and put my alternate pair in a shoe bag and throw them in there. This solution is good for work too cause if my heels just aren’t working, I can change in a jiffy. Or if we decide to grab drinks after dinner, I can just throw on my heels.

Another great solution is to get a really cute pair of flats; however, they just don’t have the same effect for me ;)

What do you think? Are heels an everyday staple for you? Or do you usually wear flats?

Heels.com Insider: Fergie Fall Sneak Peak

Posted by Suleika on Wednesday Jul 1, 2009

If you thought Fergie’s Summer collection was hot, wait until you see some of her new styles for Fall. My fave is Lavish. This suede stiletto features a super cute ruffle at the ankle. It’s a modern and vampy style with a Victorian era feel. Lavish will come in 4 colors: black, taupe, teal and magenta plum.

For flat lovers out there, my pick is the Hilton. This ballerina flat shows off edgy metal studs and comes in 5 colors to choose from: black, brown, teal, magenta plum and pewter. Happy Heel Hunting!

Heels.com Insider: Stiletto Girls Meetup in Charlotte!

Posted by Lindsay on Friday Jun 19, 2009

The Thursday before last, the Heels.com girls got all glammed up with our hot rollers (well – I did), cute dresses, and of course – we brought out our most head-turning heels to show off at a local event centered around the best thing in the world – high heels!

We heard about a group of local Charlotte women who get together once a month at a fun bar to show off their shoes and learn about local businesses that cater to women. We decided that a group of Stiletto Girls was right up our alley.

Even though it was raining, we still managed to make it to the event to check out local businesses like Seventy Two Shoe Boutique, Black and Blue, and the Pink Hanger – all really cool! They had discount coupons and all kinds of stuff to try on. The cocktails were amazing as well with the highlight being Apostrophe’s delicious Cantaloupe martini – yum!

At the end of event they have a little competition for the best heels of the evening – and we just knew a Heels.com girl was sure to win. We had it narrowed down to my fierce black patent Report Signature Pamonas, Suleika’s girly red LAMB Sydneys, or Linda’s sparkling Report Signature Carletons – and Linda won for the evening getting the crown for the night!

All in all, it was a really fun event – a great chance to meet friends with similar interests, learn about local boutiques, and check out some great shoes! If you are in Charlotte – you should definitely check out their page on Meetup.com: http://www.meetup.com/Ladies-Night-Stiletto-Girls/ and stop by for the next meetup. We would love to meet you!

Heels.com Insider: Hey Shoe Lovers, it’s Suleika.

Posted by Suleika on Monday May 18, 2009

A wise person once told me if you can mix the things you love into your work, then you will hold the key to happiness.

Shoes have been a life long passion for me. Ever since I set eyes on my mother’s black plain pumps she wore to work, I was mesmerized. “How do you walk in those shoes,” I would ask. And each time I tried, I would fall flat on my face. Then, when I got my first pair of 2 inch heels in seventh grade, I was hooked.

It’s been an endless love affair ever since. Though my styles have changed, my passion for shoes has not.

After years of working in the television news broadcasting industry, I am focusing my talents on creating new and exciting video projects on Heels.com. From features on the latest and greatest heel styles to video blogs on Heels.com happenings, we’ll be celebrating shoes and you… the women who wear them.

So stay tuned and Happy Heel Hunting!

Posted by Lindsay on Wednesday Mar 25, 2009

It’s been SUPER busy here at Heels.com.

We’ve been getting tons of new shoes in, buying even more, and on top of all that we are about to launch a brand new version of Heels.com!

We’re really, really excited about the new site – its going to have tons of new features and a new, easier to use look. We can’t wait!!

It should be *fingers crossed* launching soon!! I’m attaching a screen capture for a quick preview below – click for bigger!

It’s a footer… get it… haha

The new feature that we are the MOST proud of is our new video content! We have videos for every shoe like below:

You might also notice some other new features… the price drop alert and the size availability alert buttons – really helpful!

Last, but definitely not least, we made a few little changes to our navigation:

There are also tons of backend upgrades that should make the whole experience smoother – like letting your browser back button work and many other things. We are super excited – but, what do you think?!
