Bright, bold and edgy. That’s what you’ll find in our latest addition to the Heels.com family, Iron Fist. It’s the only time we’ll allow you to say, “Hey – check out my Iron Fist Pump!” Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way…let’s talk shoes.

Our Iron Fist love affair kicked off just a few weeks ago when we showed you this lovely nautical -inspired style on Facebook and Twitter, we received rave reviews from you – our fans and followers.

We just had to see more from the makers of this lovely shoe and we were not disappointed.  Our buyer could not get enough of the tattoo art – inspired styles from the brand. With dozens of heels to choose from, we selected the boldest looks we know you will love.

The Iron Fist brand was launched back in 2001 by two friends from South Africa who wanted to translate street culture and art into fashion.  All of the brand’s shoes are made from animal-friendly material. Priced at under $75 a pair, they’re wallet-friendly too. Look for Iron Fist Shoes on Heels.com in September. Happy Heel Hunting!

Heels.com Insider: Lauren Jones visits Heels.com

It’s not very often we see famous faces inside our Heels.com warehouse in Charlotte, NC but this week, Model/Actress turned Shoe Designer Lauren Jones made a stop and brought along some gorgeous friends.  Some were flashy, bright and sexy…we’re talking shoes!

Lauren & me at our Heels.com Headquarters

What we really liked about Lauren is that she’s not just the face of the brand, she’s involved in the design of every style and even met with our buyer.  We’re really excited to announce this hot, new brand will be a part of our Heels.com family. Look for Lauren Jones Shoes on our site in October. We know you will love them!

Lauren says her shoes are for the girly girl who loves fashion, the red carpet and is style savvy.  The line is priced from $69 to $129 so a girl doesn’t have to break the bank to look fabulous, circa SJP on Sex and the City.

One of our favorite styles from the Lauren Jones collection was this glittery, nude peep toe pump with a double platform. Lauren was wearing this style in nude satin when she came for her visit. This sexy stiletto will be available on our site in December.

Lauren’s line also offers glam choices for the bride who wants to stand out. This gemstone embellished bridal shoe will hit our shelves in October. Happy Heel Hunting!

Heels.com Insider: Are Heels at the Pool a No No?

Posted by Suleika on Thursday Jul 1, 2010
See more posts by Suleika

There are few places I wouldn’t wear heels – places like on the side of a mountain rock climbing, sightseeing and hiking…though I have attempted wearing heels during the latter, but that’s another story.

So, with pool season hot and heavy, this is a great time to address a Summer fashion conundrum: wearing heels at the pool. Is it a do or a don’t?

We all know heels lengthen your legs and make you appear leaner but wearing them to the pool might be a bit too much. Swimsuit models in catalogs wear heels to enhance their looks and showcase the suit but can we all agree they look a little ridiculous half naked wearing 4 1/2 inch stilettos?

Unless you’re in LA, filming a pornography or are a stripper, leave the 4 inchers at home.  But if you insist on being elevated while wearing your swimsuit, I recommend a modest wedge. What are your thoughts on the subject? Do you wear heels to the pool?

Below are some of my suggestions for pool side footwear. But don’t put too much thought into your choice, you’ll end up kicking your shoes off anyway. Happy Heel Hunting.

Heels.com Insider: Sex and the City 2 Mania

From the very first episode of Sex and the City I watched back in high school to today…it’s been a long love affair, from the fashion to the friendships and the S-E-X.

Through college, my Saturday night ritual always included watching DVD episodes of the series after bar hopping with my friends and a microwave frozen dinner was always part of the late night experience.  The girls were there through my heartaches and triumphs and have stayed with me ever since.

When the first SATC movie was released two years ago, I celebrated by hosting a cocktail party and watched the movie with my closest friends.

This year, I’ll be attending The Official SATC 2 Prescreening Event with the Heels.com crew and special guests in Charlotte. (I have to confess: I’ll also be watching it again on Thursday, what can I say? I’m a junkie!) I’ll be sure to post pictures of both my viewing experiences.

I’ve tried to avoid movie spoilers but have tuned into a lot of the pre-movie coverage from the Today Show and of course I’ve watched the trailer about 1,000 times!  This site has posted a lot of great SATC 2 coverage for the past year and it’s been a great resource.

I’m really excited about the SATC 2 soundtrack that will be released tomorrow, here’s a sneak peek from Alicia Keys. You know I’ll be blasting these tunes all the way up to show time!

If you’re a fanatic like me, then you simply must visit these fun sites and resources related to the movie to get your fix before the official release:

Skyy Vodka – has designed a special edition Sex and the City Bottle with the help from the movie and show’s amazing costume designer, Patricia Field.

Sex and the City Gear – from necklaces to t-shirts and martini glasses, you’ll find the must haves. Shop today and get 15% off your order with coupon code SATC15.

Live Red Carpet Coverage – need I say more?

Heels.com Insider: Make the Switch…Go Cruelty Free

Posted by Kait on Thursday Apr 15, 2010

After reading a blog about the upcoming fur laden Fall styles,  (thanks Shoe Girl) I have come to the conclusion that I am very naive about the whole cruelty free industry. Don’t have a cow (pardon the pun, I couldn’t help myself)! I have nothing against any of these designers; their work is impeccable. I just feel badly for the poor animal on my feet!

YSL Fall 2010 RTW

Emilio Pucci Fall 2010 RTW

Louis Vuitton Fur Bracelet

I’m not an activist, but I love animals. All of them! The thought of fur gives me the heebie jeebies. It has for years. So when I saw all of those shoes with all of that fur, I was heart broken. I brought it up to Lindsay that these designers must not have a cconscience to be able to come up with a design knowing that animals will be hurt. To me, it’s unjustifiable, but she brought up a great point…

Everyday, people use goods that come from animals. Especially leather! Check your car, your closet and your home. I’ve never thought of this before (I’m sure most of you are thinking that I must be clueless) but some of my favorite shoes are made of leather, and the sofa at my mom’s house is leather and I love it. The seats in my car are leather. An innocent cow was harmed for humans to have these luxury items. They aren’t the brightest of animals, but it is a life.  I will be keeping all of these things, as they are a part of my life, but I am very much more aware of the difference I can make by paying more attention.

I don’t mean to offend anyone. Everybody has an opinion and this is mine. I’m open to yours as well.

I have heard some of the horror shown in the movie Food Inc. I won’t get into details, but if you are serious about a cruelty free lifestyle, I would recommend to watch it. It’s pretty harsh the way most animals, bred for production, are treated.

I know it may be difficult for some of us to say adieu to our beloved leather or fur shoes. I don’t think I could steer away from all leather shoes; they are just too beautiful. I will be trying harder to look for man-made products. Just think, Natalie Portman did it! She just launched a vegan line for Te Casan. Pretty cute.  And you will also save money. We could all use little more of that these days. Man-made products are much less expensive than leather and fur goods.

Conveniently, we have a vegan in house. Kinda funny huh?! The only complaint he had about vegan footwear is that they fall apart quickly. Because of the glue used, it’s hold is not as strong as industrial strength. He bought his shoes from Moo Shoes. I have found some other sites too. I also found this list from PETA. Check them out!

Don’t forget about us too! We have many styles that are not leather. And you know they have to be cute if  we are selling them! Read the product descriptions to see what the material is.

Heels.com Insider: Sandal Season is Here!

Pull them down from the attic, crawl under your bed or go shopping! Break out those sandals, ladies, the time has finally come  to show off our pretty pedicures.  I thought this would be a good way to start off the season, by indulging. If you have the ability to go to a salon and get a pedicure, great! But if you don’t, I found these instructions very helpful.

Image: Sephora.com

  •  The first step in a pedicure is to clip or file the toenails. The nails should be filed straight across, rounded slightly at the corners conforming to the shape of the toe. You should never clip or file into the corners of the toenails as this could cause you to have ingrown nails.

  •  Soak feet in warm, soapy water. This will allow the dry, calloused skin to soften. You can use a foot file, which can be bought at a Sally’s or other beauty supply store, to rub off the dead skin. Wet the foot file, apply soap and rub gently in a circular motion across all areas of the foot. Repeat on the other foot. Allow one foot to continue soaking while you work on the opposing foot.

  • After the water cools, remove feet and pat dry. Using an orange-wood stick or Q-tip, apply a cuticle removing solution to skin underneath the front part of the nail. Keep the cuticle wet and gently loosen the skin. DO NOT cut, as this causes pain and/or infection. If you have hangnails, simply use clippers to trim them back.

  • Wipe excess cuticle solvent off with a damp towel. Massage each foot with a thick foot cream or lotion. Don’t forget the toes! Allow lotion to penetrate feet for 5 minutes. For extremely dry feet, wrap feet in a wet warm towel after you apply the foot cream. Wet your towel, ring out excess water, and heat the towel in the microwave for 30 or 40 seconds. Do not leave the towel unattended in the microwave.

  • Rinse off the lotion in warm soapy water. Scrub off the extra lotion or dry skin by using a foot scrub. Rinse feet and dry thoroughly.

  • Clean each toenail with nail polish remover. This will remove any residue. Apply a clear base coat and it to dry completely. Then apply two coats of your favorite nail polish. Allow it to dry. Note: It takes 2 hours for polish to completely cure.

Heels.com Insider: Size on the Rise

Posted by Kait on Monday Mar 8, 2010
See more posts by Kait

So I was checking my email, as usual, and I ran across an article about the growing shoe size. I didn’t think it was such a widespread issue, but as I read on, I learned the opposite.

In the past 30 years, the average shoe size increased from a 7.5 to an 8.5. There is no proven reason why this is. It may be the growth hormones in our food these days or that earlier generations had much sturdier shoes that were better for our feet. One theory is that comfortable shoes, like Crocs and clogs, have caused our feet to spread.

crocs

It makes sense though. If you think about it, a high heel is usually narrow and somewhat confining to the feet; causing us to have problems with our feet. Wearing a “comfort” shoe gives our feet room to expand as we walk. If you were to wear these shoes on a daily basis, I think it would only be natural for the the feet to grow wider and longer.

I haven’t actually thought about it before, but now that I have read the article, it makes perfect sense. I still wear the 7.5 I have been accustomed to for years, only now my feet seem like they are wider in the front. I blamed working in the food service industry for my feet having issues. It is what caused me to wear comfortable shoes in the first place. For years my feet were spreading and I didn’t think twice!

With the average shoe size being an 8.5 now, it seems that this size cannot stay stocked in the stores. I’m going to do my own little experiment. For today, I am going to monitor the sizes that are shipped and take an average size…

Eric_Bailey_Big_Feet_2

Ok, so maybe they have something. The sizes that ran neck and neck were 7.5 and 9.

The kicker of it all is that nearly half of women continue to buy shoes that don’t fit! Why do we do that to ourselves? I know I’ve been guilty of it in the past, but I’ve come to learn how to talk myself out of buying something. I know! I can’t believe it either. That’s huge for me.

We love shoes! They are the one thing that can change the look of an outfit or update your wardrobe without spending a lot of money. It’s easy to see why women buy shoes, even if they don’t fit!

What types of issues do you have with your feet? And what are the solutions to your problems?

If any of you are having trouble finding your size, here are a couple websites that offer sizes 4 through 16…

Heels.com Insider: Shoes as Art? Or for Walking?

Posted by Suleika on Tuesday Feb 2, 2010

It’s all well and good to buy that last oh-so-perfect dress on the rack, even though it is 4 sizes too small. I mean you can admire it from your closet right? Hang it up like a piece of art? No?

High heel art

I would say it is the same with a beautiful pair of shoes that are simply too high for comfort.

Many scoff and say comfort? No, beauty is pain and that means fashion too. If you want comfortable shoes you might as well go and buy some orthopedics or even, gasp, Uggs.

I own quite a few pairs of shoes, and I have had to learn to restrain myself when it comes to sky-high heels. Sure, they may look absolutely delightful in a picture, or when you receive them in their perfectly papered splendor. On your feet? Not so much.

When women wear shoes that are obviously uncomfortable, it shows. And nothing tarnishes your look like the duck waddle walk – you know the one.

However, designers don’t seem to feel my pain. In a 3 inch heel I can go all day long, and in 4 inches I can make it standing for several hours. But in 5 inches? I don’t know how stylish I would look spilled on the ground. It seems as if season after season, we are seeing higher and higher heels. I keep hearing that low heels are coming back into style, but when I see the shoes we receive, they seem as if they have taken growth hormones! For instance, since the beginning of the LAMB line, shoes have gone from this:

LAMB Georgina Heel in Camel
in 2008

To this:

LAMB Rhett Sandal in Red
in 2009

To this:

LAMB Zan Sandal in Black
in 2010

Granted, all these shoes have different platform heights, so the actual slope of the shoes may be comparable, I believe there is definitely something to be said by these climbing heel heights.

Personally, I just can’t do it. I would love to see more shoes in the “wearable” range with the awesome stylings of all these shoes.

Well, it seems there is also another option. If you are really committed to a pair of shoes, and you have a great shoe repair person, you may be able to have the heels taken down. Or you can ship them away to NYC and get them a complete makeover, like below!
